Time for tires 850

Can anyone recommend decent, yet affordable tires for an 850 turbo? It has the 15 inch aluminum wheels. I really don't drive it all that hard or fast. A local tire store quoted me $400 for a new set of Yokohamas. I've heard good things about those tires. Do I even need to spend that much?

Thanks,
Dave

I have been using Falken ZE-512 tires for the last 15k. Good feel and value tires. Got them for $52 each from NTB, back in 2003.

I have Yokahama Avid H4S and they have been great tires. They listed for $119 a piece installed. I told them I didn't want to spend that much. They tried to offer me something else....I said no, I'll just have to wait a couple of more weeks or shop around. Hmmmmmm, low and behold, I eneded up getting them for $89.00 a piece installed with all warranties.

Good advice on both the Michelin Pilots and the Bridgestones. Get the Bridgestones if you don't want to spend the money for the Pilots. But, you car can never be any better than the tires, don't skimp. Quality is the only bargain.

If you're going to spend 400 bucks, I'd recommend a set of Michelin Pilot Exalto AS. Preferably from TireRack.com - if your repair shop mounts tires, that is - otherwise you're stuck w/ NTB or similar (but sometimes they'll come close to matching TireRack prices if you bargain a bit.

I just got them for both my XC70 and Saab 9000 and so far they're the best tires I've owned (inc. Pirelli, Conti, Mich MXV, Bridgestone, Yoko, Dunlop etc.) as far as wet/dry stickiness and ride comfort.

BTW, they replaced a set of Yoko AVSdBs on my Saab - the fronts had lasted a whole 10,000 miles or so.

Yeah, I believe they are AS 430's. I'm gonna go ahead with the Yokohamas. Our Benz needs tires soon, too. It will probably get the same thing.

Thanks for the advice.

I put a set of Good Year Assurance Triple Tread on my car a bit less than a year ago (195/60R15). I have been very happy with them (put a set on the wife's van as well). Good in the rain, OK in snow, not noisy, decent grip; all-in-all a good tire with an 80,000 mile tread life. Price is generally reasonable.

I just put Bridgestone HP50's on my 850 in October and I am very happy. I drive a very curvy often snowy pass on my way to work in Colorado Springs and I have found these to handle both curves and snow exceptionally well. I am also pleased with how well they have worn so far, I drive the corners pretty hard and they are showing very little wear. I got these tires at Sears on sale and I think I came out under $500 or $600 total.

My former tires were the Mich.? Energy. They wore pretty quick but were strong in the corners. However, I flatted out 2 or 3 of these tires on nails because they were so soft.

Very pleased with the Bridgstones so far and I have to say that I have been pretty happy with the factory Bridstones on my Pathfinder and the stones that I put on my motorcyles over the years, too.

Good luck!

Tires are what make a car go, stop, and turn. $400 isn't that much. Just don't bother with the suggested flat warranty, it is not worth the extra cost. Besides, you get free balancing for the life of the tire.
If you aren't hard on the tires, they should last at least 5 years.

The Yokohama AS430's are very good tires and reasonably priced for AA/A rated tires. I have a set on my daughter's BMW and they handle and ride very nice. If that's what the tire store is recommending then I'd go for it.
