instrument cluster 850

I am about to install a much better looking stock instrument cluster in my 850, infact it will probably be the one from my wreck 850 or a metric canadian version. My question involves, cracking the odometer to match the mileage of the one I'm taking out(no, i have no plans on selling the car anytime soon). Is it something I can do, or should i just install the new cluster with the mileage it has and just do the math?

You should be able to swap the speedometer, itself. Having never tried, it might be glued which could be an insurmountable problem. If it is just security paint on the screws, go for it. Make sure you get new bulbs before you put it all together!

Just put new bulbs in whichever one you use. I would keep the speedo that matches the engine.

        instrument cluster.... odometer swap 850

You can just swap the odometers out. Put whichever is closest to the correct mileage in the one you're gonna use. You can read the actual mileage off the ECU (and so can a dealer...) anytime you want. There's a good article over on Mathew's Volvo site regarding the odometer gear fix. Follow that and you can swap out the odometer housings.
