You want how much for a brake caliper.................???? 850 1995

Hi,
My wife`s 850 wagon needs a new front brake caliper & today she went to the dealership in the city to pick up the part. I`d looked on FCP Groton website to check their price which was around $100 with core charge. I told my wife that she probably should expect maybe $150-175 from the dealer. How naive of me! The price was $300. which she refused to pay.
OK plan B; I have no experience with FCP Groton so are their parts good quality? The other option, I suppose, is to see if I can get a used caliper locally which may be problematic as the local PYP never has 850s.
Your input is appreciated.
Cheers!
Rich

Rich

If you are interested I took all four calipers off a 97 850 T-5. I could send you one cheap if it will help.

I am in Michigan (49546) if you want to check out the shipping

You might want to give Erie Vo Vo a try. They sell used parts out of New York and list calipers for 40 to $50 depending on model. They have a good warranty also for most of what they sell and shipping is very reasonable.

FCP parts are good and the service is outstanding. My experience states that what you do to the left side, do to the the right side also. The calipers from FCP come loaded with pads. You should be able to do the job for about 150 after core charge is returned. While you are at it, replace the rotors too. Not much more.
Good luck,& use jack stands.

That's 'zactly what I did. I replaced the rotors/pads and discovered a blown caliper seal on one side. Ordered both remanufactured ATE calipers from FCP and now have a spare set of pads. Get new brake lines too (cheap). Also, make sure you pre-spray the old line connections with Kroil a couple of days in advance and use flare wrenchs to break loose.

Even $300CDN is a bit too much. The dealer probably has 6 children who all need braces!
Delivery to the great plains is going to cost you. Someone in Toronto said that using US mail is very much cheaper than UPS, probably because there is no bribe money.
I just looked at Autohouseaz.com and they want $175 w/$75 core charge. Rebuilt is just $37.81 w/$75 core charges -- USA dollars. They claim the dealer price is $360 US for new OEM.

I second the use of regular post! UPS is terrible for cross border shipping, especially when they add in their brokerage fees!! Here is a tip if you use UPS and live near a border. Tell UPS that you will pick it up at their whse. and clear it through customs yourself. I know in Fort Erie that UPS is attached to the CBSA whse and you simply need to go to customs with the invoice- pay the GST/PST get a stamp and voila you're done. UPS often charges upwards of $25 for their brokerage fees- plus any taxes.

Of course you can always get a UPS or other mailbox stateside. Shipping everything their and save so much on shipping that it would make the $5 per month well worth it.
