I have two fan problems, probably unrelated.

1. The aux radiator cooling fan fails to start sometimes, resulting in severe overheating. Other times it starts as it should. Crossing my fingers as the temperature comes up does not seem to affect the outcome.

2. Occasionally, in hot weather, the air conditioning blower will start on high speed with the car parked and ignition off. I have to turn the ignition on to stop it. Most recently, I parked the car and the aux radiator cooling fan was still running (which is not unusual in hot weather) and when I returned 20 minutes later, the aux fan was off and the AC blower was running flat out.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
jbb

You are right. the overheating is caused by a faulty fan module that can be changed free of charge by a new type ( Recall by Volvo ). Depending of the fault can either not start or not stop. The part is a plastic box tied to the fan structure. I cannot remember now but I believe that the faulty is a black box and the redesigned box is aluminium coloured.

The second issue is normal as the auto climate control works to take away the humidity of the even if you are out of car.

bbqsdirect,

After translating your comment to English, I still don't understand it. Please restate it more explicitly. "Please advise" on what???

1. Yes, there is a recall on the engine fan.

2. Yes, "afterblow" functions properly as described.

On #1, maybe related to this. Make sure you have the recall performed

On #2, after blow is as designed. During hot weather, it seems to run a really long time after the car is off. I heard the purpose is to get rid of moisture in the AC airduct.

There was a recall on the fan if you haven't gotten that.

The AC fan "problem" is easy. It is operating normally. The afterblow feature turns it on about an hour after you stop and turn off the car. It is done to dry out the cooling coil to avoid mildew and corrosion.
