my volvo wheel locks key is stripped to all hell. i rotated my wheels last fall. i hand tightened each wheel lock. the key was a little suspect after i made the mistake of not removing the locks when the car had the calipers replaced. the brilliant guys at the shop damaged the key. since i havent driven the car all winter i cant get the locks off. any suggestions on new key or how to get them off? the key does not have a number on it and i can't find the package the locks came in.

    I wasn't sure whether the key was destroyed, or the wheel locks, or both. I thought you might be trying to save the locks, but it doesn't sound like you are trying to salavage any of the locks. I haven't dealt with any of this. But Sears advertises a "Bolt Out" set that supposedly will grip rounded off bolts and nuts to remove them. Is is possible that they have a large enough one and that it would work? If so, it might be easier than drilling.

    This has happened to me twice. You can remove the locks with the key and an impact wrench.

      my mechanic tried that already. also, tried fitting a socket over the lock only to have the socket split. he was able to break out the part of the lock that requires the key on one of the locks. he's going to try to drill out the bolt. thanks

        Check out your local auto supply store. They should have a hardened bolt-out socket specifically made to remove wheel locks in emergency. You will need an impact wrench to do this. Important: tighten the other bolts of the wheel above normal torque to reduce the pressure on the wheel lock bolt. This is why the lock bolt are first removed over other bolts when removing a tire and last tightened over other bolts when installing the wheels.
