condensation dripping out of air vents. 850

tonight i had condensation dripping out of my air vents. I think i burned it all away with heat. I did hear a sloshing sound this morning coming from inside the counsel. as of now i will be replacing the entire dash and clusters etc. in this car with the ones from my wrecked car next month becuase the condition of the ones from my wrecked car were/are so much better. there is cracked plastic out the wazoo all over the counsel of this car, becuase the previous owner tried to lift the dash and do a few other things without knowing what he was doing.

Well Volvoboy, you got a job! Replacing the dash is no small thing. It will be a good time to replace the evap core, among other things. Your current problem is the drain being plugged at the heater/evap core area. Don't worry, you will have unfettered access with the dash out. Just make sure everything is spotless before you re-install. Don't rush it, it may be a 3 day job to do it right.
Water should never find it's way in to the fresh air intake. Something is wrong with the seals above the intake, like around the windshield. That is why there are 2 drains in the firewall cover.

We're using our mechanic we have connections to to do this job. the dash in my wrecked car was spotless. I want it back. I've gone as far as lifting the dash before. As of now the instrument cluster cannot strap on to the palstic on the front due to it being broken. That will have to be replaced too. the previosu owner improperly installed an aftermarket radio. apparently the volvo radio plays a roll in the sturdiness of the dash, becuase when i put it back in half the ratteling noise stopped instantly.

Did you have very heavy rain recently? I've had water sloshing around in the air plenum (holding fan, evaporator, heater core) for a half-day or so after a really torrential rain. I figured more water got in than the floor drain under the heater core could handle at one time. Is your floor drain completely open, and do you have a pollen filter at your fresh air intake? The pollen filter ring can be a kind of dam to limit water entering thru the intake. Also are your cowl drains clear?

yes, i was thinking that could be it too. We had very heavy rains all day sunday her in chicago, and monday morning I did hear sloshing! I'll check that later on. The car did come from Georgia, which as most people know, has the worst pollen in the world!
