Ridiculously fragile dipstick handle V70-XC70 1998

I'm familiar with the whole broken dipstick issue on the 850/70s, and how anyone who snaps the handle has the pleasure of replacing both the dipstick and the tube. So I've always been a little more careful than necessary with the dipstick so as to avoid this problem.

Last night as I was checking the oil, I decided to checking out the condition of the dipstick o-ring (not removing it). I wiped off the oil around the ring with what I can confidently describe as "hardly any pressure." And, snap! Pretty sure I actually said out loud, "You have GOT to be kidding me." It sure didn't take much.

Anyway - as excited as I am about spending $ on a new dipstick and more $ on a new dipstick tube - and believe me, I am excited about it - I decided to take a shot at delaying the inevitable. I bought some Loctite All Plastics superglue and put Humpty Dumpty back together again. Tracking...

Anyone have success repairing these little suckers?

The engine heat will foil your attemt. If you can find a junk yard, try to get a used dipstick from them. Just measure the length of yours from the O ring to the bottom first.

I'm sure it eventually will go again due to the heat, but I snapped mine last June and it's still together with super-glue. Also, I check my oil several times a week, so it's not like I'm not putting stress on it. I agree with Klaus...go look for a back-up before yours breaks for good. There is a part number on the dip stick itself, so match it up with one from a junk yard (and double check the lengths). Apparently there are 3 different ones with different lengths and part numbers, and thus the necessity of buying a tube for it as you don't know which one you'll be getting when you order the part (part numbers are cross-referenced for new ones...ughhh).
