Anyone have any suggestions on getting the axle out of the transmission? I have a driver's side CV boot I need to replace, and I can't get the thing off the car!

I've been wiggling a screwdriver and trying to bang a wedge in the space for the past 2 hours to no avail.

I borrowed a slide hammer from the local Autozone (with 3 jaw attachment)- had it out in under 5 min. I have never successfully removed an axle with a screwdriver.

I can usually get them with a big ass screwdriver but every now and then I have one that requires the actual Volvo special tool to get it loose. The problem with driving a wedge in there like a tapered punch is that it is only on one side and it causes the axle to bind instead of coming straight out. Get the biggest screwdriver you can and try again and be careful not to crack the side of the case, I have seen that one done too.
