question about radiator fan.... 850 1996

When do the radiator fans kick on in 850 Volvos? And do they continue to run (for a short while) even after the car has been turned off-like A1 VW's. I am just trying to confirm that the new radiator fan that was installed(last week at the Volvo dealership in Cerritos) in my father's 850 is indeed operating properly. I drove my Mom to the office this morning on the way to the mechanic (to have the oil changed, a new sway bar end link installed, and the tires rotated), and after driving the 5 miles, the fan wasn't running. It did appear to be running (however slowly) after I brought the car to the house so my father could take it to work. Thanks in advance :)

That's normal. If you want to check the fan, just turn on the AC if it ever gets warm out.

The fan is a 2 speed device and isn't used much on the highway because of the normal airflow.

Yes, it runs for a little while but not all the time. It has to do with the temp reading of the engine, I believe. I recall our 850 used to do that too.

Thanks MadeinJapan :) I just wanted to be sure that the various Volvo dealerships didn't mess up the fan as well. Have a most wonderful weekend, and thanks again for all the help :)
