Where is the Control Module Box Filter ? V70-XC70 1998

On the service manual of the 1998 V70, it says replace the air filter, including the control module box filter.

I opened the control module box slightly but did not see anything that looked like a filter.

Would anyone know where it is ? Maybe at the bottom ? How do I access it ?

Never heard of such...you sure it's not the cabin filter?

Nope. I looked at the owner's manual again. It's the Warranty and Service records Information book.
Under "Body", it lists replacing the Cabin air filter.

Then under "Engine", it lists "Air filter cartridge, replace" and then IN BOLD LETTERS, "(includes control module box filter)".

They did that for the first and maybe second year models only on the 850. If your ecu box has the air intake hose that goes from the top of the box to the fan shroud area of the radiator it would be located right there at the connection of that hose and the shroud. Two metal spring clips and a little bitty air filter not much bigger than a bar of soap.

        Mark

Thanks for the info. My '98 V70 does have an air intake hose. I opened one side of the ecu box top cover. I didn't want to remove the other side since it might be difficult to put back. I felt under the cover and there was nothing right after the hose. So, I guess, as you said, no filter on the V/S70's.

Looks like Volvo should have recalled their owner's manuals as well. And why didn't they just make the clips similar to the air filter ? This one's so hard to remove and you have to be careful putting it back as it may fall into the engine compartment!

I think I'll have some cheese with my whine...
