New cd player hum while on AUX input 850 1994

I've installed a Pioneer cd player in my car. Unfortuntaly it does not have an AUX input (for an mp3 player, etc), but it does have an input for a CD changer. I found the pinout diagram of the connector, so i was able to make a cable that converts this to an AUX input...it works fantastic, however, im picking up a ton of engine noise.
I've read that this is a known problem with 850's and AM reception.

I am using the ground on the connector to ground my stereo minijack. This is the common ground from the original 850 radio. There is no engine noise while playing a cd, or listening to the radio. Does anyone have any suggestions to remove this noise?

Would it be the same problem that so commonly prodouces noise while listening to AM radio?

Thanks!

A lot of possibilities here. I would find a more stable ground (maybe), but depending on the spark plugs you install, the engine can really play a number on the audio. The Volvo OEM plugs seem to be the best in this regard.

any ideas on a more stable ground? isnt the ground to the radio just the common ground for the car, so i would run into that problem no matter what?? I was thinking about building a 'virtual ground' from a resistor bank..any suggestions?
