Another starting issue 850 Turbo 850 1996

My car has been doing the strangest thing for the last few months:

Occasionally it seems as if the engine gets stuck (chokes) as it's starting. The lights come on, it starts turning and then kind of gets stuck. I can turn the ignition back off and immediately restart and it works fine. Only once did it have a problematic start on the second try and the car idled roughly afterwards until I stepped on the accelerator.

The other observation I made is that this problem occurs almost exclusively if I turn the car off and on during the day (go to store, get gas, etc) as opposed to when it has been parked overnight or for a long time. In other words, this never happens when I first start it in the morning.

I thank you in advance for your advice.

Andy

When you say it "gets stuck" do you mean it stops turning over? When my camm sensor went bad it still turned over great but would not start. Check and clean the battery connections. Could be the ignition switch?

      Hi,

      Thanks for your response.

Yeah, it kind of feels like it's "bucking" and just won't start. All the lights come on. It sounds like something is out of synch during the stating process and the engine just chokes and can't start. Again, if I turn the ignition off and immediately try again it starts fine 99% of the time.

    Hi Andy,
Mine does the same thing. What I've been narrowing it down to is a fauly
    cam position sensor.
    Good luck,
    Armie
