new 850 questions 850

I just bought my second 850 to replace the one which was smashed by a truck the other day. I need to rescue the stock radio from the 850 which was wrecked to put in the one I bought. How do I go about this?I know it all slides out in cube, and yes I know my code, but how is it fastened to the counsoul?
It's amazing that the previous owner trashed the OEM radio becuase he lost the codes!! i'm sure the dealer could have found him the codes!
Secondly, isn't there a rather importand gas-tank related recall on the 850's which I need to address with a dealer. I do see signs that some gasoline has been leaking at the seal between the filler tube and the tank.
thanks,
Chris

The recall for the gas tank problem does not cover leaking between the filler tube and the tank. I found that out last month when I first noticed a fuel leak in my '95 850. Go the link that pasted here to view the actual recall report that Volvo sent to DOT/NHTSA. They will correct a seepage problem between a heat shield and the tank and install rubber bushings between the tank and the heat sheild attachements. The dealer will most probably charge you to fix any leak at the filler tube.

    Hey Chris,
What model is your radio? SC810 without CD?
If so, you can use the following to unlock the radio...
Key in 25X5 (The X will be digit 0 thru 9) Eventually, you will get the right
mystery digit. Remember that there is a 3 hour wait period between 3 unsuccessful attempts.
Also, there a only 2 DIN plugs on the back of the unit, unless you have a remote CD shiffle.

I was able to salvage the radio from the wrecked car. the previous owner tossed the radio becuase he was not wise enought to contact a dealer to get his code! I nearly hit the ceiling when he told me that, but i bought the car anyway. it plugged in and ironically the solid volvo radio in place of the the junk that was in there cut 90% of the rattaling noise in the car!

I beleive there are two tabs on each side of the radio. Push them in with a screwdriver or something and they will pop out. Pull out the radio using the two tabs and there are two wiring connectors in the back.

Piece of cake! Too bad they didn't design the AC evaporator to come out like that!

i assume that there is some sort of plug in the back like the 240's had, right?

Been a little while but as I recall there are 3 plugs I think (maybe 4) - antenna, speakers, power and if you have CD changer 1 for that. Basically like the 240, however if I recall right the 850 radio has locking tabs on the wiring harness you need squeeze as you pull and the 240 just pulled out. But still one of the easist things you'll do.

Dealer should be able to lookup VIN and see if gas tank recall has been done or if your your year was included. I got a letter for it on my 94 although haven't gotten to it yet. Mostly because nearest dealer over an hour away! Should also be a sticker somewhere (on door edge I think) that it was done.
