air conditioner electrical problem 850

First, a thanks to everyone on this site who helped me with my intermittent engine failure problems - turns out it WAS the fuel injector relay. Replaced it for $60 and haven't had a problem since, knock on wood.

Any suggestions for my latest problem will be much appreciated. Here's the situation: I have a 1993 850 with 115K miles. In the past couple of months, the climate control system has worked intermittently. The blower motor has stopped working - regardless of whether the A/C is turned on, what temp I have the dials set to, or what speed I have the sliding switch moved to, not even on the "aut" position, not even when recycle is on. My independent, reliable mechanic pulled out the blower motor and reconnected all the wires and it worked for a week before it gave out again. He said the blower motor is fine. He thinks it might be a problem with the A/C control (panel?)

I've read a lot on this site about broken solder connections? Could this be it? How and where could I check this out myself or have my mechanic look for it?

Thanks!
Ginger

I assume you've checked your fuses. The fan speeds except the highest are controlled by the slide switch which sends voltage to a multi-tap resistor. It is the five-sided black plastic plate that mounts to the air plenum just to the driver's side of the climate control fan. That resistor failed on my wife's car last week and the fan did not work. FCP Groton seems to have the best price.

Read the codes for the Climate control. If you don't know how go to www.volvospeed.com and look at the maitenance section (Bay13) and then report back as to what you find. 850 blower motors are known to seize and need replacing eventually. I would think that's your issue. Not bad to replace...at least it's not your evaperator. www.eeuroparts.com as well as www.fcpgroton.com have them for a reasonable price.
