850 Sedan 850

Does the Volvo 850 seadn have a fold-down rear seat? I am thinking about an 850 wagon but the sedan might do me if the rear seat back folds down into a large flat space.

Also, does anybody know what the difference in weight is between the wagon and sedan? Do the sedans give better fuel mileage?

Thanks,

Mike

not flat though since the seat bottom stays in place. Say around 25 degrees

Thanks, that is useful information. I'll just need to find a sedan on a used car lot and take a look. I have a 1991 Mazda 626 sedan with fold down rear seat (same thing, it doesn't go quite flat) and it works OK for what I need it for. I'm probably crazy to even think about replacing the Mazda as it only has 78K, was well cared for, and seems fairly easy to maintain but I like the saftey of a Volvo. I would also expect the Volvo to have an advantage in long term durability. So I'm not quite ready to buy just yet but I might if I found the right car at a good price. Knowing that a sedan will work makes that a little more likely. Ideally I can find something like a well maintained 850 that needs an A/C evaporator and is selling below market. (I don't care for A/C myself) I don't want a turbo and I'd really love a 5-speed but I understand those a very rare.

I bought my 850 in San Francisco. Here is a link to the listings on craigslist with volvo in the search engine. I was surprised at how many different models were available at reasonable prices. I don't know where you are located, but a cheap plane ticket and a nice weekend in the city car shopping and sight seeing might yield what you are looking for.

Good luck!

5-speed naturally aspriated (NA) 850's are very rare, but can be found (look on eBay and Autotrader). The price is usually pretty good because there is not a lot of demand for the manual transmission. A 5-speed will also help performance on the NA cars.
