How to read the VIN Number and shock 850 1997

My 1997 850 VIN is YV1LS5641V1xxxxxx
Trying to find what is the engine type

I am also interested to install new Shocks. There are 2 types self leveling and non-self leveling. How to find what my car has? I use 205/65/15 tires.

Is it a easy job I can do it at home?

Please suggest and tell me your experience.

The above does not tell about the engine type my car has.

Thanks,

How to read the VIN Number and shock 850 1997

What you need is to order Volvo's Pocket Data Booklet for 1991-1998 cars. About $25 from Volvo NA. Just call the 800 number tomorrow.

Your engine code is "56" which is a 5 cylinder 2.3L w/4 valves per cylinder, built in Sweden.
The options come from the 7 digit chassis code on the product plate, which is on the door and also has weights on it. I don't recall sedans having self leveling suspension, the wagons do.
