Manual transmission S40-V40

Anybody know where the filler plug is on the manual transmission for a new S40? I see the drain plug but not the filler. Believe in changing all fluids. Thanks. Cal

At least one of the manual transmissions is as the follows:
Jack up car and remove left wheel and then the engine splash guard.
The drain plug is the lower left of the half shaft boot.
The level plug is to the upper right of the half shaft boot (and real close to the boot).
    Use Volvo transmision fluid.
Check to see if this matches your transmission. Your mileage may vary and this may or may not match up with your transmission.

He's asking about the fill plug, not the drain plug. Here's another non-answer - Is that not a 60k item? You already have a 60k miles on a new S40?

The level plug is the fill plug. It appears to be to the upper right of the half shaft.

Thanks very much. Just yesterday I had all the wheels off to rotate the tires. When I'm ready to change the trans. fluid, around 30K miles, I'll look where you advised & see if I can do it myself. Have you every changed it & if so how did it go?

          Cal

I would wait until you need a new clutch. I have never drained MT fluids, and I have had a lot of MT cars. Unlike ATs, there are few friction parts and therefor little heat buildup.
It is more important to keep the clutch from slipping.

I've not changed the fluid in a Volvo transmission yet - and my V40 is an automatic anyway. I' have changed it in a manual Honda and the setup is similiar. Drin the transmission from the lower plug then fill thru the upper plug. Use a hose with one end in the upper plug. Put a funnel in the other end of the hose and pour the transmission fluid into the funnel. It takes a while - so be patient. When it starts running out of the upper plug, you are done.
