Service in Tulsa area S60 2001

My S60 T5 has about 58000 miles on it and will be coming up for the 60,000
mile service. I was down in Tulsa a week ago Saturday and talked to the
folks at Jackie Cooper Imports, the local dealer, who btw participates in
the VCOA discount program. The Volvo service manager was not there so I left
a note for him to send me an e-message, which he did not do.

I phoned him a few days later and we talked at some length. During the
conversation I asked him about the 60,000 mile service for my car. He had
to look it up and told me that it would cost about $500 plus another $50 or
so for some specialized service for the turbo. Found out that he has recently
been assigned to Volvos and that most of his experience is on Hondas. In fact
it seemed that in the past 39 years I probably have accumulated more Volvo-
related knowledge than he has (although little of it applicable to this
particular car). I have not talked to any of the mechanics who would be doing
the service but I sort of feel that the fellow I talked to wears business
clothes and has clean hands, which worries me.

The warranty book that came with the car has all the spaces up to now stamped
with Volvo dealer stamps from the Houston area. I think I would like to keep
it that way at least for the time being, or until I learn a LOT more about this
car.

Can anyone direct me to a Volvo mechanic in the Tulsa area who WILL inspire my
confidence?

George:

You might for kicks call the Houston Volvo dealer and ask them what service is required at 60 K. I have always heard of the 70K service and never anything special to a turbo. They really just sit and spin and crave oil and coolant. The guy you spoke with just doesn't pass my tummy test.

Of course you could drive to Houston and visit all of us!!

I probably will be driving to Houston eventually but not for that.
Both my sisters live there.
I do have some qualms about it though - I REALLY like being in Bartlesville
where I can get anywhere in 10 minutes or less and NO TOLLS!
And I can get to the Big City (Tulsa) in 40 minutes where most things
that I can't get here are available. (still no tolls unless I get on the
turnpike)
Many thanks for your confirmation of my gut feeling.
I have since found that there is another Volvo dealer in Tulsa and I am
awaiting a call from them.

George,

FWIW, an MD friend of my wife likes BMW's. She likes them so much she goes to Wichita to buy them... to avoid dealing with Jackie Cooper BMW here in OKC.

And while I'm at it, don't come to OKC looking for a stellar Volvo dealership, either. We only have one unfortunately, and I sometimes wish they had some competition.

This may end up sounding like a Wichita Chamber of Commerce ad, but IMO, the best Volvo dealership in this part of the world is Gorges Volvo in that fair city. They're the only game in town, but they always come out at or near the top in customer satisfaction rankings for US Volvo dealerships.

Good luck with the 2nd dealership in Tulsa, let us know how it goes.
