I'm a long time volvo owner, '88 240 (330,000mi.), '94 945, '95 965 (276,000mi,), the 965 being the best car I've ever owned. It still runs like new, after replacing all the big items that go on this car, the latest being the PNP switch.

Anyhoo, I wasn't in the market for a new car, but a '01 V70 XC AWD with 44k caught my eye. Dealer asking 22k, but believe it can be bought for 20.5.

Besides the throttle body, is there anything major that plagues these cars, or is it a sound buy.

Just bought a 99 v70 XC 70k from a Volvo dealer w/ all maintenance records ($12,500) in early January --- good so far ---- since you have owned Volvos previously then you know the safety factor-- but expect more to maintain than w/the 1s 2s 7s & 9 series

DON"T!!!! I too am a long time Volvo owner - best cars I've ever owned up to the 2001 XC70 I'm now plagued with. Absolutely, unquestionably the WORST car I've ever owned! My list is WAY too long, but I was offer $8,000.00 CAD on a trade this weekend. Car has 150,000 kms on it. What does that tell ya? I'd move up at least 1 model year if you have your heart set on an XC. 2001 is universally regarded as a bad year (but same with 97-00). Run my friend, run.

KBB said 17K for trade in and 22K dealer. Wonder where he gets his price guide from? You already know what the problems are because you peeked. The ETM failures are now covered until 200,000 miles. See if you can get service insurance at a good price. Make sure there are maint records on this car, it is 5 years old already.

If you know, for how many miles is the ETM on the S80 covered? Is it in writing somewhere? thanks.

Volvo just announced it last month...first 10 years of ownership or 200K miles, which ever comes first.

have had my 00 XC for 5 months, and put 17k mi on her, the extended warranty has already shelled out over $4k in miscellaneous repairs already.
