Just bought a Volvo 850 and could use some help 850 1995

Hey Guys.

I have just bought my first volvo and all of a sudden I have an unrelenting urge to drive around mid daylight with my headlights on, I have also found myself seriously looking at golf pants to buy. Embarassed. But the car is great.

The car is an Automatic 1995 Volvo 850SE WITH 180000km on the clock I only had one concern which after searching the forums found the solution. (sometimes Id start the car and blinkers wouldnt work)

The driver is a 24 year old male (quite young for the volvo driver Im told) who lives in Sydney Australia.

Great forum cant wait to get involved.

I have been scouring the net for some upgrades I can make. and was thinking after a complete service to upgrade the exaust system and airfilter.

Does anyone here live in Sydney have any recomendations as to who I should employ to firstly give my car a complete servers and then secondly do the upgrades I want.

Thanks in advance for all your patience and helpful replies

There are very few upgrades for a Normally Aspirated Volvo engine. I would suggest installing a K&N air filter and find a cabin air filter to help keep the fan clean. A new exhaust system might give you an extra 5KW, but that is all. This car was not designed to perform like a rocket, but rather to go around corners on twisty roads.
You will have to be content to let the rice burrners pass you on the straight sections, while you pass them on the turns.

I would not mess with the intake and exhaust on a non-turbo Volvo 850. The chances that you will improve over the factory condition are very, very slim.

Mostly you will throw money away and end up with a car which might be noisier than stock, but doesn't perform any better.

hey, I have got some good advice regarding the clothing choices. But what Id really like to know is how to get some more kw out of this car.

    I have the 850SE it has 103KW
The GLT has 123 odd kw

Why is that and is there any saf way to get the SE up to 130 KW?

Its going in for a major service On Thursday next month and want top start doing some mods to it straight after.

Oh come on MIJ. I've been driving wagons since I was 22. (22 was sooo long ago) Ever since then I've been fighting the urge to understand escrow, make sound investments and the painful urge go to bed before 9 p.m. There's nothing wrong with golf pants, right? I also like ascotts. Is that a crime?! LOL

Next time it does this wiggle the keys in the ignition a little bit. Chances are you have a faulty ignition contact plate and it is causing the blinkers to fail. Past that see if the flashers work when the blinkers do not.
