Parking 1998 v70 for 6 weeks

I'll be parking my car for 6 weeks and I'm wondering if there is anything I should consider so that all goes well when i get back. I hope to have it indoors but there is a chance that it will be outside which in this part of the world means the last part of the winter.

I never understood all these people who easily disconnect the battery for a short time off the road. If you are considering a trickle charger, VW makes one which is solar powered (avail on ebay) and pluggs into the cig lighter.
I just park my car and expect it to start two months later. Remember, if you disconnect the battery, your radio code will be needed and you alarm will not be active. Also, your tranny and emissions will have to "re-learn".

Klaus, great idea solar charger. Just have to be sure cig lighter socket is hot with key off so charge has path to battery. Larry

Ooops, I don't think it is hot in Volvos. Sorry,

No, it's not hot on my car with the key off, but it wouldn't take much to make a hot connection. What I would do is forego the cig lighter and just tap into an "always on" spot under the knee bolster on the driver's side (where all the relays are) and put in a second cig lighter female plug (cheap from RatShack) and hook up your solar charger there. Great idea. Better than taking the battery out (which is what I mentioned first).

Basically, disconnect the battery as indicated, and once you go to start it again, don't expect it will just fire up and run like a champ. I leave mine 5 days and there's a bit of a stumble. The good news is, it will adapt quickly.

Not sure about the time period but I've heard of people disconnecting the battery and hooking it up a trickle charger if they're away for a long time. Best to keep it in a garage so you can do this, or take the battery out and put it somewhere where you can do this. Others will chime in I'm sure. You'll need your radio code when you hook it back up in the car.

I would definitely disconnect the battery for that long, at the very least. My '97 850 didn't like to go more than a week without being run, but that was eventually traced to a drain from the Clifford alarm.

Our '99 V70R and C70 don't like to sit for more than a week, either. The 780 is actually our only Volvo that can sit for weeks and then start up without argument on the first try.
