Electric Climate Contron Unit V70-XC70 1994

In the past six weeks I've rebuilt the transmission, replaced the air pump (used), heater core/ hoses and a wheel bearing on my newly acquired '98 AWD V 70 (94K). Two things remain to keep me vexed; the check engine light comes on every fifty miles or so and the codes suggests a large vacume leak. Gas Cap O ring failure, maybe? And just today the two little orange lights on the a/c switch and the air recirculation switch began to flash in unison upon starting!!! Manual says failure in ECC unit bring to Volvo tech. No way. Question...does the apparent fault in the ECC unit really mean anything, I mean the heater still works and the fan , of course blows, will the a/c be adversly affected this summer? Manual control all year round is fine by me.
As to the Check Engine Light I suspect I'll keep looking for a cracked vacume line or something...
Good thing I got the car for peanuts cause I've dropped $4500 on it sorting things out since Thanksgiving.

Vacuum leaks are a PIA. I assume you have checked all of the elbows, including the one at the air pump. I have started putting electrical tape on the hose side of the vacuum connectors to cover potential cracks. Also check the vacuum line that goes down towards the turbo, nest to the firewall.
As for the ECC, yes, there are seperate codes for that too. First, check the fresh air filter, it is probably clogged after 94K because no one ever looks at it until the fan dies.

Tell us what the codes are for the CEL. This will help us know more about your leak. In regards to the ECC doing the blinking lights; our old 850 would do this periodically, but didn't completely have a break-down for a long time. Hard to say on yours. You know you can read the codes for this too (socket 1 of module B) and see what the issue is. Our final code was a seized blower motor. Does it make any noise?
