electrical problem 850 1996

My son's 850 just did the following. When he used the drivers window, the radio began making a squealing sound. Then the headlights would randomly go out and come back on. Sometimes it would be fine for 15 mins, then lights would go out again. He also said the lights would dim or go out when he use the brakess or turn signals, but not always. Anyone have any ideas. Could it be a bad alternator. Not sure if they have a voltage regulator but if so could it be something like that. Any help appreciated.

Bad battery. Weird, but I've heard strange electrical gremlins when the battery stops holding a full charge on many 850's and 70 series cars. Have you jump started it lately? A friend of mine with a '99 V70 blew his head lights out (the bulbs) and had strange electrical things happening after his battery became weak and he jump started his car. After replacing the battery and the headlight bulbs, everything is back to normal.

I would still check the battery and the charging system. Could be the alternator isn't charging it properly.
