V70 engine variants V70-XC70

does anyone know what the engine options are/were for the later V70 range (2001 - present)? If I'm not mistaken, they are all variations of the 2.4 5 cyl. Is the 2.4T a higher output turbo?

Yes, the 2.4T hss the low pressure turbo...the regular 2.4 had no turbo. Hope the following helps:

    They're all five cylinder engines.

    2.4 naturally aspirated - 168 hp
2.4T "light pressure" turbo with no intercooler - 208 hp
    2.3 T5 intercooled turbo - 257 hp

The 2.4T seems to be the most popular variant, and is sold only with an automatic transmission.

Right, the 2.5T is what my wife drives, and it is very close to the 2.4T, but with 27 more HP's. A poll over on Swedespeed rated it as the most reliable and "best" engine of all of them...of course the T5 and the notorious "R" (at 300 horse power) are more fun!

Oops, I missed the 2.5T and the R versions. :)

I listed the basic variants, but there have been a number of others over the years. The only one that doesn't seem to change much is the 2.4 non-turbo.

If we add the European engines to the mix, there's a bunch of 2.0 fives (mostly light pressure turbos), a 10 valve 2.4, and of course the diesels.

Some trivia - Canadian market 850GLEs in the mid-90s used the 10 valve 2.4, rated at 138 hp. Also, the first Cross Countrys (XCs) in North America were Canadian market 1997 850s, with the first light pressure turbos and five-speed manuals only.
