Thinking of buying a 2002 S60 AWD-Turbo S60

I'm considering buying a 2002 S60 AWD Turbo. The car has 52,000 miles on it and after driving it several times, it runs real nice. I own a 97 850 and I am somewhat famliar with Volvos. How has the S60 line been holding up? What can I expect in regards to trouble areas with this car?

Thanks.

You might want to check out the home page of this website. Some 02s are included in the expanded NHSTA ETM engineering investigation. I would certainly avoid the car if it has a Marelli ETM.

Hi, I can understand the concern but I own one and I have not had problems and love the cars. They handle very well and are great to drive. If I was looking for one I would drive it and see how it feels.

Hi Choppercpt, go ahead and buy it with no regrets. I own a nice 02 AWD and love it. It's an S60 afterall. Just keep up on the maintenance and depending on your type of driving you will get good economy tool. It hugs the road in both bad and good driving conditions. Tires are the key. Enjoy your AWD!

You can get all the snow traction you need with properly sized snow tires. AWD still needs snows to help to stop and turn on the white stuff.

The 2002 may be the ideal year for a good deal on a used S60 - Bosch mass airflow sensor and electronic throttle module, without the drivability/potentiometer wear/warranty replacement issues of the Magneti Marelli unit on the '01 cars. I think the cruise control on my '01 works more precisely than that on an '06 loaner car that I drove, but that's a negligible benefit. ('01 cars use a Japanese (Denso) mass airflow sensor; too bad Volvo didn't source the ETM from them as well.)

I dont know about the S60 but we do have a V70 awd. I think I'd stay away from the AWD unless you drive in a lot of snow or rain. It adds a lot of weight which will lessen your performance. It also adds a lot of costly components that could (and will) go wrong. Our car get about 19mpg in town, from what I hear the FWD cars do a lot better. my .02 maybe no .00
