Need the names & #s of Volvo Salvage Yards: Need a used child booster seat V70-XC70

Hello All,

I need a used child booster seat for a 1999 XC. My local Volvo Parts Dept. tells me that child booster seats from earlier 850/V70 wagons will fit the '99 XC. This child booster seat is located in the center of the rear passenger seat and folds out from the seat back. The color code is 3960 (a light tan/beige). I've tried two Volvo salvage yards without success: Erie Vo-Vo, Whitesboro, NY and Volvo Auto Dismantler (Sweden Auto Warehouse), Sacramento, CA. The Volvo dealer wants nearly $300 for a new seat.

Thanks in advance to all who reply. I appreciate your help.

Hugh

    Hugh,
thank you for taking the time to go to both threads and respond to me. you stated that you can't put price on safety. We have children ages 5 to 28 years, and a couple of grandchildren. We have survived a few dangerous collisiosn as well...with our children in the car. My wife and one child were t-boned in a 240 one year and everyone walked away...the insurance company did total the car. I tried to straighten the damage a bit to be at least drivable until we found something else. the rear door still opened and closed, but even with a skidsteer and a chain we could not straighten the door damage at all...it was like a tank. We were also hit head-on by a VW Jetta on a crazy traffic circle in Cape Cod, with two children in the back seat. Although it really screwed up our vacation that year, we all walked out of the car unscathed. to repeat myself....you are right...you can't put a price on safety value. volvos are build like tanks. Even our 5-year old notices the difference between closing a door on his friends'parent's subarus (soup can)and our volvos. Thank you for the info again. glenn

      norEast,

Thank you for the names of the salvage yards. I have two '96 850 wagons and a '99 XC, so I'll definitely hold onto the names of these two sources.

Hello Hugh, My wife and i just put a binder down on a 99 V70 XC w/71000k Please tell me you like your 99 XC. and if you don't like it, break it to me gently. any feedback would be appreciated --- since 1973 have owned 140s 240s 700 & a 940 rear WDs.---- the brothers at Formells in MA have always been a pleasure to deal with they will go beyond to help, and, prices were always fair. The last time (04) i used Bucks in NY they were on the verge of selling out but, were unsure -- EPA hassles. Also, good people to deal with if they are still there.

          NorEast,

I just got done putting a reply to your query under the XC category. Yes, I would buy the car. I've never owned the models you mentioned, 140, 240 and 940. Based upon what I've read at this website, the XC may not be a trouble free as those cars or as easy to FIY. But what I have heard from people who have gone from the older Volvos you've mention to the FWD Volvos and the AWD Volvos, is that they handle better, are more comfortable and are more fun to drive.

I think probably a good idea would be to get an extended warranty. That way, should anything expensive go on the car, you'll be covered. One thing about Volvos, and you really can't put a price tag on this, is they are incredibly safe cars. They will probably save your life and those you care about, than lets say one of the Asian or even domestic manufacturers. That's why I bought my father-in-law a used '99 XC in 1999. At that time, my wife and I both drove '96 850 wagons with 5 speeds. Her's was purchased new, and mine was purchased used. As an aside, she has 230,000 miles on hers now and I have 170,000. Both cars have been reliable, and mine probable saved my life, or prevented me from being seriously injured when I got "t-boned" right by the driver's door. I got the car repaired, and I'm still driving it.

Anyway, getting back to my father-in-law, he was driving an 1986 Toyota Corolla wagon with AWD. It was a great car. But he took care of our infant daughters at the time, and it bothered me, that my wife and I were driving around in Volvos, and he along with our daughters were in a small Toyota. Hence the purchase.

You'll like the XC. Just keep up on the maintenance, and you'll be "OK". Thanks again for the leads on the two Volvo salvage yards. Hopefully I'll be able to save a boat load of money, instead of being forced to buy a new booster seat. Good Luck to you!

          Hugh
