Hello All,

I need a used child booster seat. This is the seat located in the center of the rear passenger seat that folds out of the seat back. The color code is 3960 (light tan/beige). I've tried two yards without success: Erie V0-Vo, Whitesboro, NY and Volvo Auto Dismantler (Sweden Auto Warehouse), Sacramento, CA. Can anyone recommend other Volvo salvage yards? The Volvo dealer wants $300 for a new seat. I've been told by my local Volvo Parts Dept. that booster seats from early 850 and V70 wagons are interchangeable. Thanks to all who reply.

Thanks for your offer of providing me with a list of salvage yards. I have three Volvo wagons, which I plan to hold onto for a long time. Hence, that list will come in handy.

The question I have is why do you want the Volvo booster seat?
What age, weight, height child are you trying to protect/accomodate?
As a Safety Engineer I would recommend that you use a child seat with the back rest that wraps around to protect the child's head in a side impact. The Volvo booster seat will not provide this protection. Something to consider.

My motivation for seeking an OEM booster seat is based upon "esthetics". I want the car to appear in its stock condition. However, I am going to look at the web site you recommended. I still use after market booster seats in addition to the Volvo OEM. The after market seats I believe when I purchased them received good reviews from Consumer Reports. However, I have considered replacing them because of wear and age. In addition, my sister and sister-in-law have small children who still require a child seat. The information contained on that web site will probably influence what type of seat they purchase as their children grow out of their current seats. Thank you for recommending the site. I would have never found it on my own. Your response confirms the value of this forum for obtaining important information.

Thanks! I called Erie about a week ago. They did have booster seats, but not in the color I needed (3960). However, I got lucky. My father-in-law who is Whiz, repaired the broken seat.

P.S. Did you buy the '99 XC? If you did, what color is it? My father-in-law's '99 XC is white.

Yes, we bought it.white w/ charcoal.... Service Engine Light came on yesterday and i think i'm hearing squirrels under the hood while at idle. Most likley the famous air pump problem (72k).... thankfully still under warranty.. I also own a 02 Chevy s10 w/ 125k and it is in the shop TODAY because it coded out "DTC P0410" = new air pump.. i have 3 friends that own blazers & a sonoma all have had the same problem.-- seems to be a money maker for someone -- being they won't pass NY inspection with the S. E. L. on! --- anyway back to the XC.We are in the mids of some pretty heavy lake effect snows today -- my wife is on the road throughout the days and in and out of all typs of driveways and on many low maintaince roads. She has called me twice this A M to rave about how great the XC is in foul weather. We had been running a Subaru Legacy awd for the winters-- good car but certainly no comparison to the Volvo.

Congratulations on your XC! I hope it provides you with years of trouble free service. You may find the XC requires more maintenance than your Subaru Legacy (what car wouldn't? Subaru's may not be everything, but they are known for being trouble free / low maintenance). That said however, I would still prefer driving an XC over a Subaru. The reason is safety. Fortunately for Volvo, because of the type of cars they sell, the repeat purchasers, and I confess, I'm one of them, will "forgive" a lot of the small shortcomings experienced as a Volvo owner. Things that fail, that you would never experience on an Asian car.

Still, since 1996 when I bought my first of three Volvos (two '96 850 wagons and '99 XC) there hasn't been a day when I wished I drove another car.

Thank you. I was successful in obtaining a used booster seat. But I'll hang onto this salvage yard's name and address for future use. I have 2 '96 850 wagons and a '99 XC and I plan to hold onto them for the long haul. As time progesses, used parts will, when appropriate, be the way to go.
