98 AWD,torque converter clutch slippage, fault code PO740. Occurs at highway speed on long inclines, drops out of lock-up temporially and arrow flashes for a while, check engine stays lit. Transmission specialist sees no benefit in taking apart tranny, says live with it; regular mechanic thinks replacing the torque converter may cause even more problems and doesn't know what to do and, of course, the local Volvo dealer wants to replace the whole shebang for $5600 + tax. When I initially posted the gegining of this saga KlausC reccomended a full transmission flush and service. My question; is it worth replacing the torque converter on a vehicle thats gone 95K? Any other thoughts?
