S70 vs. 240 Heater / Defroster S70

My old 240 had a fantastic heater and my new (used) S70 seems to have a much weaker heater. I cannot heat and defrost at the same time in Norther IL. I'm wondering if is something I just need to live since the 240 had more BTUs or if it is time for a new thermostat. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks Greg

    Probably the thermostat.

Definitely the thermostat if the gauge isn't pointing horzontal when it's warmed
    up.

Ultra-definitely the thermostat if you're not getting heat and the "check engine" light comes on. (The code will say it's the temp sensor. But it's not the temp sensor. Just clear the code.)

There is probably more heat in the 5 cyl, so I would suggest a new thermostat if the temp gauge is not pointing to 3 o'clock.

Thanks - looks like an easy job per my manual so I looked to buy one online and there apprears to be 2 options: 87 and 90 deg models. I live in Northern IL so would it be best to get the 90 deg one - I assume it will produce more heat. Not sure of the impact in summer on the A/C? Comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Greg

The 87C degree thermostat opens earlier than the 90C. If you have a turbo, get the 87. For NA engines, the 90C.
Either one will give you plenty of heat. 100C = 212F
