Power Steering quit work 850 1997

Greetings,
The power steering quit working on my '97 850 sedan. I can fill up the fluid tank, and it will work fine for a day or two, but then quit, and all the fluid is gone. Where do I look for the problem?

Thanks in advance,
Stuart

Assuming the steering rack is bad, how hard is it to replace? It appears I can get a rebuilt steering rack for under $300.00. I am somewhat mechanically inclined, as I have replaced a drive axle, timing belt, and I do my own maintenance. I don't have a nice shop to work in, but I do have a covered area to keep out of the rain. Any replacement help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Stuart

If you can do an axle, you can do a steering rack. I think an alighment would be required afterwards, not sure.

You definitely have a leak somewhere. Warm up your engine and leave it in one spot...turn your steering wheel from side to side several times and then get out and see if you see a leak under your car.

Yep...isn't there a rubber boot over the end of it that can be replaced? If not then a new steering rack.
