Check Engine Light Code 850 1997

I started receiving a Check Engine light yesterday. A stop at the local Auto Zone store revealled the code P0410. Can anyone tell me what this is?

Thanks,

DR

PO410 Secondary Air injection system malfunction

There is a blower under the battery tray that operates for about 2 mins at startup. The system also has a SAS valve located on the engine near the firewall (round device with a purple vac hose), a relay down near the blower and a small controller on the inside of the radiator shroud. One or more of the 4 components is probably bad. Check the blower by unpluging it from the relay (blue wire I think) and applying 12 v to it. If it doesn't run, that's your problem. They aren't cheap. FCPGroton sells them @ about $300. If the blower runs, your problem is in one of the other three components

Try also tightening your gas cap. It can set this code if I'm not mistaken. Do that and get Autozone to clear your code for you and see if it comes back. If not, then go with the suggestions made by the earlier poster.

Thanks Guys. I did the tests and it's the air pump. I received the parts from FCP Groton and installed them today. Using the Bay 13 instructions, it was a very easy job.

        Thanks again.
