Does anyone know the size of the "bolt" on the plaxtic oil filter cap on an '06 S40 in millimeters? Just bought one and want to do my own oil changes. A 1 7/16" looks close but want to get the exact size. Also, has any one thought of cutting a hole in the engine compartment plastic pan so that before you drop the oil you don't have to remove the pan? Presume there's a good reason for the pan - quietness, cooling, airflow, engine cleanliness. Don't like it but should keep it on. Opinion? Thanks.

That's not the correct tool for the '04.5 on up S40/V50. That tool is for the other oil filter housings from '99 on up, excluding the new body style S40/V50. The other guy has it, the 36MM 6 point socket and for only $18, that's a good deal as they cost much more at most other places.

Who is the other guy? I have an '06. Thanks.

I think what he was saying was that the plastic guard on the bottom of the car is in the way and he has to remove it to drain the oil and change the filter. I would also recommend against cutting it unless you buy a metal/aluminum skid plate to protect that area. I would stick with an OEM filter wrench for the filter. I bought a cheap knock-off for my '04 (uses the same size filter...well, actually the plastic housing...the filter is the innerds that you put into that thing) and it slipped while I was trying to torque it to spec...believe torque spec is 18Lbs-ft. You can however find these on eBay for considerably cheaper than at the dealer.
