My XC will not take gas!!! V70-XC70 2000

I know this sounds weird, but the last couple times I have gone to fill up my 2000 XC it acts like the tank is full and it spits gas back up on me. The gas gauge is working properly. I can't figure it out. Anyone have any ideas?

ON THE FILLER NECK FROM UNDERNEATH YOU WILL FIND A VENT CANISTER LOOK IN THE HOLE AND YOU WILL PROBALY FIND A SPIDER WEB PLUGGING THE HOLE

I had this same problem with my 2000xc. The dealer found the fuel vent shut off sticking at times. They replaced the defective fuel fill shut off valve. All is well now.

Someone else posted the same exact problem over on S.S. It ended up being something to do with the filler hole/evap system in the car and had to be fixed by the dealer before gas started going in and not spit out. Good luck!

That's the most common cause and takes seconds to fix, no parts required.

Two possibilties:
#1 The Evap systems canistor vent is clogged and that can easily happen if a spider makes a web covering the hole. It's located by the top of the fillerneck, inside of fender looking up. It's a canister-like device with a 1/2" hole in the middle facing down. A thin screwdriver gets rid of a spiderweb.
#2, the roll-over valve in the tank is stiff and needs replacing. It's located where the filler tube goes into the tank and on an AWD car, it's more time-consuming to replace.

Having a car that doesn't use gas should be considered a miracle, not a curse. If, on the other hand, it acts like a one year old being spoon fed, then it is just the pump having too much pressure or the pump nozzle worn out. There are times when I have to stand holding the handle and changeing the nozzle position to get the car to take gas. Bummer when the temps are around 0F.
