turn signal fails to cancel V70-XC70 1998

Turn signal will not cancel on left turns. Cancels on right turns but only after steering wheel returns to center. What should I do.

Idle speed seems fast it think: 900 rpm and car pulls strong at stop in drive.
2.4 non-turbo. is this normal? I think my other volvos idled at 700 to 800.

Obviously not the same car but my 245DL had roughly the same problem. The guy before me didn't tighten down the screws that hold down the stalk too well. Screws went lose and stalk would be unstable. Like the other guys said, probably just a mechanical problem that would be easily fixed by a new switch. Would be uneasily fixed by taking stalk apart and super gluing and hoping it will stay together.

I had the same problem w/ 94 850. There are two small springs inside the turn signal switch that keeps the cancelling mechanism centered. When the crappy plastic boss breaks off one of them, the mechanism is only centered in one direction, the other direction then won't cancel.

I actually repaired it by drilling two small holes where the plastic boss broke off and carefully used a piece of 30ga wire, looped through the holes and the end of the spring. Twisted it tight, and, viola, it worked. I don't know how much a new switch is but if it's a normal Volvo, it's probably pretty expensive.

Usually just a piece of plastic broke off the turn signal. Easy to install a new one, so long as you have a 25Torx to take the clamshell cover off the steering shaft.
900 rpm is normal, but pulling strong is not. Time to flush the tranny.

Probably as simple as a turn signal switch assembly, no biggie.
