Is this something that needs to be taken to the dealership(because the job needs a special Volvo tool), or can my indie mechanic(who usually only works on German cars, but made an exception for my family's Volvos) do the job? Thanks, and happy holidays :)

    As others have said, this is a nothing special job. Motor mounts look to be pretty straightforward as well.

    If you mean the front engine subframe mount; this is a simple job you can do yourself in about 30 minutes...

        Piece of wood on a floor jack and under the oil pan, raising it just enough to work on the engine mounts is the easy way. I think there's a write up on this over on volvospeed.

          I got a quote from the local Volvo dealership a few days back, and the total was a paltry $150($80 for the four subframe mounts, and $70 for labour). The 850 will be going in next Wednesday, or Thursday. Have a splendid weekend one and all :)

            Good deal!!...that's what I would do too...just too messy and not enough time...would have someone do it too at that price.
