conversion to AWD of { 1994 850 Turbo FWD/TRACS } 850 1994

friends,

I have a wonderful { 1994 850 Turbo wagon with FWD and TRACS }.

I want to put AWD on the vehicle.

Can anyone advise me as to whether this is feasible?

thanks in advance,

Tom Zoran

P.S. One idea I've had, is that perhaps the AWD components from a { 1997 850 R AWD drivetrain } could be mounted onto my vehicle. Is this feasible?

As the others have said, it's probably not possible even if you had a complete AWD parts car.
The rear suspension may not even bolt up to begin with. You'ld also need its AWD gas tank which may not easily fit, hook up. There will be many other problems too. I believe its trans is also different.

Besides all that, have you driven a '98 V70 XC? They're SLOW compared to your '94 FWD turbo. The AWD system seriously robs power and Volvos early AWD components are NOT very durable, do a search here on bevel (or angle) gears. The AWD Volvos we see with near 150K miles start having AWD component problems and none of those parts is cheap.

I'd highly advise being happy with your car as-is. It's a far better car with less problems than any AWD Volvo.

Thanks very much for the helpful advice Jake. I'll leave my very happy car as-is :)

I admit, I do love the power it gets from the high-compression turbo and FWD. And Blizzak studless snow tires deal quite effectively with midwestern USA winters.

Sell it and buy a used 4WD car. You really do not want to attempt this.

lol thanks John... see my reply to "Jake". I now understand that it would be a destructive operation.

btw, I'll keep my car. I *know* my engine is good... can't say that for sure about some stranger's....

i think you'd have to take the entire car apart and rebuild it. so...good luck.
