98 S70 front end noise S70

Ok My 98 S70 Has developed a strange noise coming from front end. It is a squeak
and vibration sound mutch like the squeak of a styrofoam ice chest. It happens during bumps in road and while turning around corrners. I looked for loose stuff in front end the only thing i found was that the black plastic under side protector air dam sheeting was broke and loose. Is this likly the source of my strange noises? Also the check engine light also started going on and off about the same time the problem was noticed. Need to find time to have the codes run by my mechanic. any ideas on the noise is greatly appreciated.

Thanks T6

A high pitched squeak is usually associated with plastic to plastic rubbing. If it is hard to fix the air dam, try a little dab of grease or oil and see if the squeak goes away.
As for the DTCs, get it read soonest.

Upper spring mounts for the front struts are probably blown out. While bouncing up and down of the front bumper with your knee look in at the top of the strut and see if you can make out the cracked rubber where the shaft of the strut comes through.

ok mark i looked at what you said to look at and yes the one one the passenger side is loose and cracked on the rubber. Does this mean i need whole new struts installed or is the ruber part replacable ?

Thanks t6

How many miles on your car? If over 80K or so, I say it would be wise to go ahead and replace the struts...they have to come out anyway to replace the rubber mount that's broken. I would also not skimp and do both sides. Replace the struts with Bilstien Touring. I've really hit the Jack-Pot with these on my car...I love them! You can buy them from www.shox.com for less than the OEM struts. Also, although not on their site, shox also sells the mounts....just call them.

Thanks for the recomendation on the struts. The car has 114000 on it so guess it would be wise to go whole new strutsalong with the mounts. The price looks great for the bilstien touring struts set of all 4 for $290.00

thanks t6
