VADIS - eBay - any activation required? S40-V40

Does anyone know if the software I can purchase on eBay is enough by itself as a repair manual? Or, will I be required to install the software and then pay an additional fee to get access to information? Any help on this would be great!

I bought VADIS from ebay. It does work and there's it comes with a crack to overcome the time limit. It's quite useful and worth they money the guy's charging for it. It also appears to have coverage for overseas models.

Vadis is for authorised volvo dealers, it's time limited and password protected. If you get the password you'll need to keep re-setting the date on your computer, the dealer gets a new one every month. If you were buying a legal copy you'd know this, so the question is do you want to use ripped off software?

I cannot believe the VADIS software sold on eBay is not legitimate. If it were not real, then Volvo would know this. I have seen these sold on eBay too - and it does look legitimate with the enscriptions on the CD. Perhaps this person found unused copies and selling it on eBay.

Volvo does not use Vadis anymore they have moved on to Vida. Vida is a web based program that you have to pay the big bucks to Volvo for to have them grant you access. If you are buying a disc off of E-bay I recommend that you purchase it from Vadis-guy. His stuff is good and once installed on your computer it will require nothing else from you to maintain it. Now if you want to use it to communicate with your car you are going to need to spend another $1300.00+ in cables and a VCT 2000. Without these items your Vadis disk is really just a parts catalog and a so-so repair manual. To really utilize the diagnostics capabilities and repair manual you need to have communication with the car.

Volvo does not even use Vadis anymore and when they did use it the system was not limited to authorized Volvo dealers. It was available to anybody who wanted to pay $8000.00+ per year for the subscription. If you get the password it is a simple matter to go in and change one file that will reset the clock from 100 hours of operation to 10,000 hours. Volvo has abandoned Vadis so somehow I think the whole ethical question of "illegal" software is a moot point at best.

What is a good source for a users manual to fix my V40? I think there is an online system located at alldata.com - is their manual any better?

Good one, I believe in free-to-use for non-profit and low usage. All software should be like that. What you pay in the shops goes about 55% to the shop, 30% to the distributors, and 10% for manufacturing costs, and 5% profit to the authors (just an example, numbers vary). If you cut out the manufacturer, distributor, and shop, then you see the stolen value is a very small percentage of the retail price. If there was a real problem, then eBay would shut down Vagis-guy and all the others like him. And Volvo and other distributors (not the authors) would also be jumping on their backs.

Do you know if the one from Vadis-guy covers the 1996 to 1998 models S40 with 2.0L engines? These models were not available in the US, so I'm having a hard time finding a manual for my car.

        Have fun...
