Anyone had experience with the IPD swar bar package??? V70-XC70 2001

Fellow Bricksters,

I am contemplating purchasing the IPD sway bar package for my V70 non turbo, and before I put my hard earned money down, I would like to know if anyone has purchased these products before. The front bar is 25mm and the rear is 22mm, will this affect the quality of my ride to a great extent. This is my wifes car and she will kill me if I turn this into a hard riding "racing car".

What will be the real world benefits from fitting these bars. It looks like I may be able to upgrade my wheels to the 16" volvo wheels and am thinking of combining these wheels with the bars.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

V70 2001 what a car, 242GT my long term project.....

Anyone had experience with the IPD swar bar package??? V70-XC70 1998

I have read the replies with interest, as I purchased the IPD front & rear package for by 98 V70 T5-M.

The rear bar was an easy installation by my indie, but he told me that the front bar installation would require dropping the sub-frame = $$$. I passed and left the existing bar (a previous IPD after market bar) in place. So now I have this beautiful, brass-colored, ornament hanging in my garage.

I all fairness to IPD, there was a "fine print" warning (which I failed to read) that used to appear on-line and in the catalogs warning of this requirement. I haven't seen that warning in the recent catalogs which have arrived in the mail.

So, guys, is there a way to weave that beefy new bar into place without disassembling my front end?

No, the IPD bars shouldn't have any effect on the ride at all ... but the reason that Volvo dials a lot of body lean into the suspension (Road & Track was already complaining about the amount of lean on the Volvo 144S in about 1967!) is a safety issue, to scare you off before you get into any trouble.

My Volvo does ride like a coal-cart, but that was my intention. :D My wife hates it. When I build my 911 RSR clone (retirement project) I'm going to build the suspension even stiffer!

I have put them on two different cars a 87 764 and 96 854t5. You won't feel much of anything in a straight line, as soon as you get to the corner you will ask, "where did the body roll go?".

Highly recommended, won't really stiffen up the ride, your wife will likely notice the improved control.

Yes, yes and yes! You and she will absolutely love them. By far the best upgrade I've done to my S70 so far.

I put one on my s40. It was very easy to install and makes a huge difference. I've noticed no difference in the ride, except in certain particular circumstances such as driving over the curb to my driveway at an angle. This causes motion transfer and just feels a little funny, but it's always a big bump, anyway. My wife likes a softer ride and has no complaints, but does enjoy the increased control and precision. Probably the biggest bang for your buck in performance mods.
