Time to put winter rims and tires on the S80 S80

My wife's S80 has the 17" Arakis rims on it. The Michelin Pilots are bald. New ones do not perform much better in the snow than the bald ones as they really are not intended for snow use. I am looking for some 15 or 16 inch Volvo rims so I can put some good all season type tires on it for the winter - then I'll buy new Pilots for the 17 inch rims next spring. My questions are:

Will all Volvo rims fit on this car? I assume if I find some 15" rims off an 850 they will fit.

I'd like to get some thin tires (better in the snow). How do I make sure I get the correct height tires so the speedometer works correctly?

I've also heard that Ford rims will fit on this car. Is this true?

Thanks in advance for your response.

I cannot imagine Volvo would use different hub sizes just for the S80. If you lived in the twin cities, I would invite you over to mount one of my wheels from my 850.
Have you tried the Tirerack.com? They have package deals.

I was exactly at the spot you are in and went a different direction after a bunch of research. Same car and rims and bald michelins. After adding up the cost of rims and tires and all, the issue that I would need 2 sets of tires - snow and normal - and all the rims and so on I did something else that I'm very pleased with.

I found that the Nokian WRs are certified as a snow tire, yet are tread rated for like 40 - 50k miles, and are quiet enough to leave on all the time. Perfect. They are GREAT in the rain, should last as long as the Michelins but who cares, and it feels like you can climb walls in a rainstorm.

$800 later, I'm a happy guy and won't be having any hydroplaning problems this summer...and I've solved the snow tires conundrum.

Dang that's sort of expensive...unless you bought rims with those tires. I still would recommend full heartedly the Bridgestone Turanza LSH or LSV (V if you drive really fast, but H if not or your car is non-turbo). These do great in dry, wet and a bit of snow and are quiet and ride very smoothly. If you live in snow country, buy some cheap steel rims and put on whatever that fits the bill for snow tires.
