OBDII code question V70-XC70 1998

My Check Engine Light came on the other day. I got a code reader and I pulled a P0172 code(fuel trim too rich, bank 1) from my 98v70xc ....is this a common fault code?...what does it indicate?

Thanks in advance for your help

It's a common one. Most common causes are (1) the front (bank 1) O2 sensor is starting to fail (2) vacuum leak(s) (3) the ECT sensor (coolant temperature sensor) has failed making the ECU engine computer "think" the engine is stone cold all the time. These are fairly common and should be eliminated before moving into the more complex stuff.

Does the temp register on your dash? If so, then it's not the temp. sensor. Could be all the rest though, but I would suspect the front 02 sensor which can be checked by a mechanic with a volt meter.
