Buying a S80 S80

I am thinking about buying a second hand (about 2000-2001) S80 2.4 (170HP) or 2.9 (200HP) Aut.

Nowadays I have a '94 850 GLT Aut. (2.5 20V - 170HP). I suppose the engines of the 850 and the S80 2.4 ones are the same or very similar.

Three questions:

1- The S80 2.9, ¿what kind of engine is?

2- ¿What are common and known failures in S80's?

3- ¿Do you recommend this car against a BMW 5 Series or MERCEDES E Class?

Thanks in advance.

    1. I6 fuel injected, normally aspirated, transverse mounted, FWD.

    2. Transmission, ABS brake controller

    3. Your choice.

P.S. I do not know of a 2.4 in an S80. There is a 2.5 AWD model, but not in 2000-2001. The other engine in those years was the T6, 2.8L, twin turbo.

      Thanks a lot.

      Really there is a S80 2.4 (petrol) in two versions: 140hp (10V) and 170hp (20V).

Where are you? In the U.S. we did not get those engines. I suspect they are simplier and more reliable than the 2.9s we got in the U.S. - which have been quite troubled - especially in 1999.
