Weird signal light problem S70 1999

I've had this problem for quite a while now and I really don't know how to fix it.

Problem is that the driver's side signal light only works when I make the actual turn signal, but it doesn't stay on when all my lights are on (including the passenger side signal light). I thought it was the bulb at first, so I got a new one and the problem still there. The light on the dashboard indicating that there's something wrong with one of the lights still is on.

How do I fix this problem?

Thanks in advance!

I have read what you are asking several times now and I simply do not understand what you are saying.

Does the signal light work, or does it not work? If it doesn't work and it isn't the bulb, it may be the connection itself. Clean the area where the bulb fits and use some light grit sandpaper to clear away any residue that may be there.

If you have a voltmeter, check to see if you have voltage at the light socket.
If no voltage, unless you know how to trace the wiring, I'd say you're headed to the dealership.

splainit...I think what is being said is that the turn signal doesn't stay on unless the turn signal stalk is held into the turn position during the turn, and that it doesn't work at all if her headlights are on. Anyway, if this is the case, I have posted a possible solution, or at least recommended to her the part numbers involved and to whom she should take it for repair....or something like that.

Since nobody has responded, i'm assuming I can't do anything about this problem? and that only the service dealer can take care of it?

I would suspect it is some wiring/electrical problem in the turn signal system itself inside the steering column. Since pulling the stalk turns the brights on and off, I would suspect that somehow this turn signal that is bad has something to do with your headlights too and is shorted inside. I hate to tell you, but unless you have an extremely competent independent mechanic who is well versed in that area of the electronics for a Volvo and is willing to open up the switch, I would take it to the dealer, unless you want to go buy the turn signal switch and have your indy install it to see if this fixes the problem (part numbers are listed below). If you're lucky, the dealer will test out the switch, finding the short and repair it, but most likely they will want to save time and make money too, so they will recommend the whole turn signal switch replacement. There are 2 part numbers listed for this: One with cruise control (#9162455) and one without (#9162454). Hope this helps...good luck!
