radio reset help,I'm locked out V70-XC70 1998

My battery cable disconnected and reset the radio, first to the "code"
prompt which was not successful and now it remains in the "off" mode. Our nearest dealer is $200.00 in fuel away and thats nearly the cost a good stereo. I've heard there is a reset button just thought I'd ask before
I tear apart the dash. Thank you for your help.

1. disconnect again and reconnect battery
2. put key intoi position 1 for 2-3 hours until code reapears on the screen again
3. enter code and radio will go back to normal.
4. if no code call volvo with serial number and talk to someone in the know there. They will not give it to you over the phone because of theft reasons. Explain your situation to them (far away ect. ) and hope for the best.
5. remember the code for next time and know it if you have to have it reprogrammed again.

Offer to fax them your car title. It will have your VIN on it. This should prove to them that you're the rightful owner of your car, if they try to deny this information from you.

leave the key in position II for about 20 minutes and you'll get another chance at the code. Either that or disconnect it all together for about 3 hours. I've heard both of these work on our model year. You have the SC816 radio?

Slide the radio out, and get the radio serial number--usually on a label on the top of the radio. If the radio came with the car as original eqipment, also get the vin number of the car. Then call the dealer and ask them to look up the radio code for you. (Write the code down someplace in your owners manual so you can find it again when the battery needs replacement--I just spent damn near a whole day looking for the invoice on a replacement radio because I forgot to write the code down when I installed it, and I knew better!) Also ask the dealer if you need to do anything in addiotion to punching in the code--on some radios, like the CR 814, there is a need to punch, e.g., "aut" after entering the code numbers.
