Hi,

I do not want to reuse SC-816, Is there an alternative to Volvo Sc-816 using other brands such as Blaupunkt, Pioneer etc.?

Thanks

    Just installed a Blaupunkt Montreal CD34 V70-XC70

Got sick of the Volvo SC-816 so installed:

-Blaupunkt Montreal CD34, looks like this:

    $90.00

    - Hardware and connector costs$35.00

    - Labor $40.00

After $175.00, I got a new CD player, the sound from the Blaupunkt is 10 times better than the stock SC-816!

    - Also the space below the Blaupunkt is replaced with a small box that can hold 3 CDs.

    Thanks guys for the advice.

Sure, go to Bestbuy, Circuit City or other places that sell, install car systems and for ALOT less money, you can buy a far better radio (Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood, etc) and they'll have kits needed to use the (then) unfilled space by the units size difference.
I see many Volvos with aftermarket systems.

      Alternatives ............. V70-XC70

....I can add to this. I have a Pioneer cd-player/radio that I bought new from a retailer on Ebay for $200. It's XM ready (I have XM radio), has amp outlets for front/rear and subwoofer (all optional but yes, I've added all that too plus better speakers), also controls an optional cd-changer and I bought the new 12 disk pioneer cd-changer also on Ebay (new) for a mere $100 (Volvo wants big $$$ for theirs). The systems works, sounds great and is far better than any OEM stock radio system.

You can replace it with the SC-901 but the 901, although has better equalization, doesn't have an amp in it like the SC-816. You can however buy an amp and put it under the seat or somewhere else and still get the 901 to work. I understand that folks who have done this have been quite satisfied with the results.

You can check out this guy's page for more information on this stereo system (for S70, but it uses the same unit as your car): http://www.jimrothe.com/volvo/index.html
