air pump 850 1996

I'm chasing down a secondary airflow code ( 410 I think but may be wrong) on a 96 850 I get nothin' when putting 12v directly on the motor so I'm assuming it's dead. I've drilled the drain hole a long time ago and it doesn't have a drop of water inside that I can tell. Has anyone ever drilled out the rivets on one to see if anything inside is fixable? $300 bucks is pretty steep from a crummy little plastic motor that probably cost $5.00 to make.

I opened mine up and used parts of it (the front cover and rear wiring cover) to convert a cheap VW air pump for use in my 97 850. It's in the car now and working great, and I saved $250 over buying new!
I wrote up a description of the procedure and hope to get it posted up on www.matthewsvolvosite.com soon. In the meantime, if you want to go this route, you can buy a used or rebuilt VW air pump... the part number I used is VW 021 959 253C. Try eBay...I got a rebuilt one there for $36.85 including the postage.

My little write-up for air pump conversion is at:

        http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/air_pump_replacement_850.php

This describes how to get a cheap VW air pump and convert the wiring and air connectors so that it will fit into the Volvo 850. (Both pumps are made by Pierburg).

        Enjoy!

If you have to buy a new one, they aren't quite that expensive:

Oops...after several more posts I realized the issue was the air pump and not the blower motor. Sorry about that.
