Rear Wiper Motor? 850 1996

Hi everyone

I couldn't find anything in the archives on this. My rear wiper stopped working in mid wipe, I checked the fuse (it's OK) but I read somewhere that the relay may be the problem? Is there anyway of checking the relay without just replacing it? And does anybody know which relay it is? I believe it is located beside the fuses but there are 3 that are similar. I do have the part # so I can just check the #s if necessary.

I would much rather change out the relay than the motor (cheaper and faster) but I don't really what to buy a relay only to find out that the motor was Bad.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I have had some luck spraying WD-40 through the slot in the collar that goes around the spindle that the wiper arm is attached to. It might be helpful to have someone in the driver's seat to turn the switch on and off as you spray and gently persuade the arm to return to it's stop. This WD-40 "repair" has lasted almost 2 years now. Just make sure you do it when you notice the wiper start to slow down.

This happened a few times with my wiper, and it turned out to be corrosion
of the "white metal" pivot that goes from the wiper, through the window
and to the drive assembly. The corrosion had caused the pivot to sieze,
and the motor couldn't move the wiper. Try turning on the wiper, and
wiggling it gently to see if you can free it up.

In my case, the plastic casing of the pivot had cracked, allowing moisture
to get in and cause the corrosion. I was able to take the whole thing apart
and clean it up, lubricate, and reassemble with a new plastic casing, and
all has been well since.
