For some strange reason everytime I's started the car in recent the AC light comes on and start blowing cold air. the car fan is in the 1 position or higher , but I dont think that warrents the AC comming on if it isnt in the Defog mode ( which it isnt ). Another strange thing is that when put in the hot/warm air selection there is no warm air comming into the cabin. and one more other strange thing . sometimes when the fan is set to "0" meaning no fan .. the fan will come on and start blowing AC for a few minutes. Then turn off.. and the fan blows in these strange gusts .. no real pattern or reason for the strange blowing. anyone have any suggestions ?

Do you have your climate control on auto? The AC comes on to defrost the car and if you have the temp set to cool, it will be cool. Also check if your vents are open. We now have cool mornings and warm afternoons so the auto will blow hot and cold. Check the manual.

Thanks for the reply. But the everything is set to manual in the car. I have the fan at Zero and I have the direction of the air going at my feet and chest. so there is no Auto setting involoved here. Its like the car has a mind of its own. On the drive in this morning It was about 14 degrees C and I put the seat warmer on cause I found it a bit cold. while driving and the fan set to zero the AC comes on and starts blowing AC air without me actually turning it on.

Most likely the knobs/buttons are just digital inputs to a computer (sorry, my S40 is a 1998 which is before climate control). If digital inputs have a bad connection, the computer will be confused and do strange things.

I'm getting no heat when I put the car to the max heat setting .. thats pretty strange .. .

Must say, the heat on mine is slow to come up. Might be a similar problem. I'll be diving into the dash soon, got the car only the other day. But 99% sure the heater valve will be vacuum controlled and might have a leak or blockage or the computer is screwed (if computer controled). Either way, diving into the dash is probably one of the first things to do.

I managed to get the radio removed. but everything else in that center console if pretty stuburn. do you know how to get the other parts of the console out ?

Let's see who wins, keep in mind that the book is for the '96 to '99 models. If I win I'll scan the relevant pages for you for free. Have fun...

Actually it wasnt me .. I dont have an ebay account. I think I mananged to get my hand ... through where the radio/stereo sits and up towards the wires that lead to the knob and got it to be more secure. but not sure. .. seeing the connection would make me breathe easier.

Just came back from the dealership this morning and they told me that my climate control unit. which is that whole piece connected to the radio and everything in the front may have to get replaced ( yeah <- sarchasim ) I dont know how to take the front console off so I'll be researching some places where I could get the part and have it professionally installed.
