Hi: I'll be driving along (manual transmission) and I come to a stop at a light or stop sign, and the car will shudder, dash lights come on, sometimes it recovers and sometimes it stalls. I live in San Francisco, so it's not cold. Any ideas or is she just old?

Too many possiblilities to mention:
low oil
bad gas
clogged fuel filter
fuel pump going out
bad ignition wires
shot spark plugs
hose or elbow leak(s)
ignition switch issue
and many more. I hope you find the answer, but if youre car hasn't had a tune up in awhile I'd tackle the plugs and wires first. If over 100K miles, the fuel filter too.

Thanks for your reply. It may be the oil which, when I checked it, was very low. No oil leakage in the garage but a lot of city driving. I'll have to check it more often--thought these beasts had a light that came on to advise of low oil, but then I should know better than to rely on a light. What kills me, is that I put two quarts in it for $14.00, what a rip off-but it was low enough I didn't want to take any chances. We'll see if that works.
