My 2000 XC has 112,000 miles. It appears to have an oil leak from the turbo of about one half quart in 2000 miles. My mechanic advises that the turbo could blow a major oil leak at any time and that the turbo should be replaced with a rebuilt unit. I have a few questions:
1. Is common for a trubo to fail via oil leaks at this mileage?I have used Mobil One synthetic oil and change it every 4000 miles. I also let the car idle for about 2 minutes before turning it off.
2. Is there a high risk of major failure and oil leaks as my mechanic advises? Would it be inprudent to check the oil frequently and delay the trubo replacement.
3. Is it generally less expensive to replace the turbo with a rebuilt unit than attempt to replace gaskets, e.t.c.?
I would value advice from anytone.
